Photo licensing
Where the catalogue photos on Castbase come from, how we credit them, and how to license one or ask for one to be taken down.
Business details to follow. Text in [square brackets] marks details, such as the operator’s legal name and contact people, that will be published before the public launch.
On this page 5 sections
1. Where our photos come from
Every catalogue photo on Castbase is one of these:
| Kind | What it means |
|---|---|
| Our own photography | Castbase photographed the car itself. Castbase owns the copyright. |
| Used with permission | A photographer gave us written permission to show the photo on Castbase. They keep the copyright. |
We do not use manufacturer press images or photos copied from other collector sites. Photos that sellers upload to their listings belong to the seller, are shown only with that listing, and are never reused as catalogue photos without the seller’s separate permission.
When we have no photo we can use, the page says “Photo needed” instead of showing a borrowed image.
2. How photos are credited
Each catalogue photo shows a credit line next to it, for example “Photo: Castbase” or the name the photographer asked us to use. The same credit, the photographer’s name and a link to this page travel with the photo in the page’s structured data, so search engines can show who made it.
If you see a photo credited wrongly, tell us and we will fix the credit.
3. Using our photos
You may share a link to any Castbase page, and link previews may show its photo. Anything else, such as copying a photo to another website, a marketplace listing, a printed product or a video, needs a licence.
Photos used with permission are licensed to Castbase only. We cannot sublicense them; ask the credited photographer directly.
4. How to request a licence
- Write to [support email address] or use the details on the contact page.
- Include a link to the page that shows the photo, how and where you want to use it, and for how long.
- We reply with the terms for our own photography. For a photo used with permission, we tell you who to ask.
5. If a photo is yours
If you believe a photo on Castbase is yours and was used without your permission, contact our Grievance Officer at [grievance email address]. Include a link to the page, the photo, and how we can confirm it is yours.
We take the photo down while we look into it. Response times and how to escalate are on the grievance page.
